random word generator to help you find new ideas to solve your challenge

idea generation: random word method

One possibility to find new ideas (according to Edward de Bono) is to take a random word and try to build a connection between that word and the solution to your challenge. Do this a few times with different words. Trying to make a connection forces you to think more widely and by increasing your horizon you hopefully will be able to solve whatever problem you have or at least find a new approach how to tackle it.Edward de Bono suggested to take a dictionary. But as paper dictionaries are rare now if you don't have kids in school you can also use the word generator instead.

The de Bono method lets you generate random words that you need to associate with your problem. This is done so that you don't look too narrowly and might find solutions that otherwise you might have overlooked.

For example, if you are trying to redesign a car and you get the word "honey," you might think about:

viscosity: Should the engine oil be different?

structure: Could the chassis use a hexagonal honeycomb pattern for strength?

sweetness: How can we make the sales experience "sweeter" for the customer?
